Computational pathology (CPATH)/Computer Assisted Diagnosis research in breast cancer.

Computational pathology provides computer assisted diagnosis rather than by microscope to predict a breast cancer signature through computational image analysis. An earlier funded project was able to demonstrate that this was possible in Aotearoa New Zealand for HR+ breast cancer.  We are now looking forward to the next stage of this Breast Cancer Cure funded project.

Dr Gavin Harris will be using AI and machine-learning to automatically read and identify these molecular signatures from breast cancer tissue samples. He will also be undertaking multi stakeholder engagement to establish ethical frameworks to improve health equity and fairness with the goal of diagnostic accuracy and assessment.  Dr. Harris sees the opportunity this work provides to enable more tailored patient therapies to give the best clinical outcome possible.
